Refractive square based arch GaAs microlenses array was fabricated by a novel method, i.e., the curvature compensation method. The new method was proposed to increase the focal length of refractive microlenses array . Scanning electron microscopes (SEM) show that microlenses are square based arch arrays, and surface , stylus measurement shows that the focal length of the microlenses array is 3861.70μm,which is much longer than 200μm and it is the longest focal length of the microlenses array of the same size fabricated by conventional methods including photolithography, melting and ion beam milling. The microlenses array (MLA) device and infrared focal plane array (IRFPA) device were aligned under an IR microscope and coupled with a kind of infrared glue. The IR response characteristics of the hybrid device were improved greatly..

The infrared radiant track along meridian course (IRRTM) over human body surface was systematically investigated by using the infrared radiation imaging technique. The results demonstrate that it is a normal biological phenomenon appearing in human subjects. The five main characteristics and the condition of its appearance were also summarized. These facts confirm the description of travelling courses of Fourteen Meridians made by the ancients of China and lay a reliable basis for further clarifying the substantiality in relation to meridian course..

The overlap regression of instantaneous field of view (IFOV) arising from dynamic laser scanning sounding was put forth and a concept of dynamic overlap factor, which describes the dynamic sounding effect of scanning laser, was presented. The relation between the dynamic overlap factor and operation parameters, system specifications and its influence on the sounding effect were analyzed in detail. Some special examples were discussed to explain the obtained results. Finally some suggestions were given for designing laser scanning imaging system with better sounding effect in earth observation..

The real parts of third order optical nonlinearity of a series of azo dye (2 2 thiazolylazo 5 diethylaminophenol) and its copper and cobalt substituted complexes were measured by using femtosecond optical heterodyne optical Kerr gate technique at the wavelength of 647nm. All the values were found to be negative and great enhancement of nonlinearity was discovered in Cu and Co substituted complexes. By using a two level model, the enhancement is attributed to the two effects, i.e., the enhancement of one photon resonance of transition and the reduction of dipole difference between transition states. A negative γ eff as large as 10 -29 esu was found in Co complex..

By simulating the inside thermal emission of the medium and the radiation transfer process, the apparent emitting characteristics of a semi transparent medium layer with graded index (GRIN) was investigated. The pseudo source adding method was combined with the ray splitting and tracing technique in simulation. When constant and linearly distributed refractive indexes were considered for an isothermal layer, the apparent directional and hemispherical emissivities were both presented and analyzed for different parameters. In addition, the influence of the discrete sub layer number on the calculating was discussed. The results show that the graded refractive index may considerably affect the apparent emission of a semi transparent medium layer..

The HMT method applied in natural image denoising was thoroughly studied. The HMT method was compared with others under different conditions, such as different complexity of the texture, different type noise and different transform domain. Some key conclusions were obtained.First, the method in transform domain is better than the traditional one which is not in transform domain. Second, the performance of HMT in the DCT domain is similar to that in the wavelet domain. Third, when the noise is white, result of HMT is excellent. However, when the noise is related to the image itself, the performance is determined by the complexity of the texture, as well as the noise density..

A combined method for automatic face recognition with both independent component analysis (ICA) and genetic algorithms (GA) was proposed. The fourth order blind identification (FOBI) algorithm was used to derive the independent sources out of the face images. To decrease the computing complexity, the dimension of the original image was reduced and GA was applied to the sources set to get an optimal subset of it. Faces can be recognized by classifying the coefficients of the face image projecting to the independent bases. The experiments in the face database show both a higher recognition rate than the eigenface method based on PCA and a lower computing complexity than the traditional ICA face recognition method..

By considering the features of targets in infrared images, a new image segmentation algorithm based on the pulse coupled neural network (PCNN) and histogram method was presented. The proposed algorithm entirely abandons the mechanism of the time exponential decaying function and uses the results of the gray level histogram analysis as the interior thresholds of PCNN. Meanwhile,it reserves the advantage of bridging small spatial gaps and minor intensity variations.Experiment results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can get more complete region and edge information of infrared images. It is also of much lower complexity and of higher speed than the original one..

A new method was presented to retrieve medical image, which is based on mutual information method. A database of ultrasonic images was retrieved by the method. The result shows that this method not only has the features of translation invarant, rotation invariant and scale invariant, but also avoids image segmentation which may lead to a complex calculation. The method has the advantage that the speed of retrieval will not get slow with the increase of the number of images. This new method can also be used to retrieve similar non medical image..

A novel discrete symmetry transform (DST) algorithm of location of eyes in facial images was presented based on the value of discrete symmetry. The pixels on regular neighbor zone were removed by detecting the gray uniformity on neighbor zone of each pixel, and the circle mask of symmetry operator was replaced by an annular mask. Better accuracy and shorter computing time could be obtained by using DST than using generalized symmetry transform. Experimental results prove that this algorithm can locate the eyes in facial images automatically without using symmetry angle and geometric feature of human face..

A global motion estimation technology based on MPEG was put forward. First, a four parameter model, which is used to describe the global motion yielded by camera motion, was proposed. Then these parameters were obtained by using an algorithm which is based on block matching, and the global motion could be compensated by these four parameters. Since the motion vectors include the information of the optimum match blocking, these information can be used without completely decoding the MPEG video sequence. The experiment shows that the algorithm is fast, and feint motion field can be excluded by global motion compensation..

Photo induced ultrafast process in bacteriorhodopsin was observed with DFWM technique. The origin of the fast component(ps) and the slow component (ns) in photo excitation dynamics was explained on the basis of models of both the phase space filling and the conformational deformation. The former is due to the excitons made from free electron hole pairs and the latter is owing to the polaron induced from the non radiative decay. The saturation density and length of excitons, the life time of exciton and polaron, and the polaron state formation efficiency were extracted by a least square fitting procedure..

A simple method based on the effective index method was used to estimate the minimum bend radii of curved SOI waveguides. An analytical formula was obtained to estimate the minimum radius of curvature at which the mode becomes cut off due to the side radiative loss.
