Solving resonators with side reflectors by means of waveguide modes
[in Chinese], and [in Chinese]
Lasers with side- polished laser rods can reduce thermal-optical distortions becausethey have a special kind of resonators-the ones with side reflectors. In this paper the analyticsolutions to the eigenmodes of the resonators are obtained by means of series of a waveguidemodes.

Ultrashort dye ASE pulses generated by transversal travelling wave pumping
Li Wenchong, Ning Changlong, and Huang Zuozhu
A N2 laser with λ=337.1 nm, pulse width =700ps is used as pumping source. ASE pulses with a duration of 45, 55 and 45 ps from solutions of Rh6G, Rh B and C311 have been obtained respectively by transversal travelling wave pumping arrangement.

Optical fiber coupled optical bistable semiconductor lasers
Zhong Lichen, Tang Yunxin, Qin ling, and Guo Yili
A compact, low input power optical bistable device, combined with photodetector and optical fiber directional coupler and semiconductor laser diode, was presented. The principle is described graphically to explain the observed effects such as hysteresis, differential operational gain and memory functions.

Laser-evaporated pulsed atomic beams and its application
Zhang Tanping, Hu Qiquan, Su Haizheng, and Lin Fucheng
The laser-evaporated atomic vapor was studied experimentally with a view to obtain an atomic beam. The signals of multiphoton ionization of refratory metal atoms obtained with the pulsed atomic beam were observed and their detection was discussed.

Blocking effect of swirling nozzle flow and its possible application to aerodynamic laser window design

A novel inclusion in laser crystals
[in Chinese], [in Chinese], [in Chinese], [in Chinese], and [in Chinese]
In growing alexandrite crystals, a novel inclusion has been found. The inclusions are quantitatively analysed by electronic probe and the mechanism for forming inclusions is suggested. In our Bridgman MgF2 crystals, the inclusions in direction have also been observed.

This paper deals with the influence of laser beam on the width and depth of melting zona and surface smoothness. The experimental result shows that the depth of hardened zone and smoothness of surface can be controlled conveniently by varying the power output beam diameter and scanning rate of laser light. By means of shielding gases, porosity can be reduced greatly. Proper selection of materials, preheating and postheating can help to avoid cracking..

Spectral and. laser properties of a new laser dye in blue-green spectral region
Yan Fujun, Huang Dezao, Cheng Zhusheng, and Teng Yueli
A new laser dye for blue-green spectral region was synthesized and its spectral and laser properties were given. It was found that different solvents can make laser wavelength of this dye tuning in the spectral region of 457 to 521 nm. It has high efficiency and good photochemical stability.
