The relationship between residual servo variance and control bandwidth of an adaptive optics system is discussed. For a system with time delay, a approximate formula for calculating the residual servo variance is derived. The formula to calculate the optimal control bandwidth of a system with measurement noise is given. For an example, the problem of choosing the optimal control bandwidth of the 61 element adaptive optics system is discussed.
