A new kind of interferometer-Fresnel zone plate interferometer-is described. It combines the advantages of both radial and lateral shearing interferometers, and thus simplifies the analysis of interferograms. This interferometer is a commonpath system. It can be used in the wavefront diagnosis of broad-band lasers and short pulse lasers. Properties of the interferometer are discussed and experimental results in laser wavefront diagnostics summarized.
