Starting from the rate equations applicable to the erbium doped fiber lasers, analytical studies on erbium doped fiber lasers pumped at 980 nm and 1480 nm bands by strong pump light have been carried out. The implicit or explicit analytical expressions of some important parameters describing the output characteristics, such as the output power, slope efficiency, have been obtained.
