    Abstract

    The resonant cavity light-emitting diode(RCLED) is novel light-emitting diode(LED) structure. This type of RCLED has some merits of plane LED and vertical cavity surface emitting laser(VCSEL) and wide application and bright market prospect. The fundamentals, device structures of RCLED and some design rules are introduced. The advantages of 650 nm RCLED applied to the plastic optical fiber (POF) communication field are given. In addition, the remarkable developments of RCLED in recent years are reviewed, especially in red wavelength rang, and the domestic conditions of research in this field are presented as well.
