A new and basic approach for the analysis of cell patterns of some specific contact screens and the reproduced halftone images is presented. Optimum parameters for high fidelity tone reproduction by screens of line, square, circular, and concentric ring cell patterns possessing optical transmittance linearly varying with position have been obtained.
