    Abstract

A novel mini-device was designed on the base of the configuration of micro-hollow cathode sustained glow discharge(MCSD). The discharge experiment was carried out with air,and the stable direct-current glow discharge was formed at pressure up to 66.7 kPa. The voltage-current characteristics showed a positive slope, and the discharges can operate stably without individual ballasting resistors. The estimated current density is 0.048 A/cm2,and the estimated power density is 52.8 W/cm3 at 40 kPa and 60 mA. The estimated electron density is 2.7×1013cm-3 in the discharge plasmas. The high-pressure,large-volume,high electron density plasmas can be used as the media of mini-laser.
