The numerical method to calculate fundamental modes of W Tunneling optical fibers is given. By using field ditribution of the fundamental modes, the tunneling process, strength and direction are analysed. It is found that the tunneling effects increase remarkably when the fundamental modes are cutoff, and they are concentrated mainly in the direction of the semiminor axis of the elliptical inner cladding.
