Photochromic materials have been widely investigated because of their potential technological applications in displays and large-area optical devices[
Recently another kind of photochromic material, i.e., rare-earth (RE) compounds, has also attracted interest. The color change for RE-based compounds is due to the light absorbed or reflected by the compounds, and from neither an excitation/luminescence emission process nor a photo-induced change in the material microstructure[
