Modulated Polarization-induced Fading Eliminated Interferometric Fiber-optic Sensor

A new method to overcome the Pplarization- induced fading (PIF) in theconventional low-bireftingence optical fiber constructed interferometric sensor is proposed.By adding high-frequency modulation to the state of Polarization in the output arm of aninterferometer, the maximum PIF variation in the sensing signal is 4. 7 dB or 6. 3 dB(depending on the choice of maculation model). By either adding an electronicallyautomatic gain control circuit or dividing the signal by the interferometer's visibility, the signal fading is recovered at the expense of a relevant degradation of the signal/noise ratio (SNR)..

It wasfound that the scanning trace on the crystal surface tended to segment and the inversionwidth near the crystal surface was thinner than that inside the crystal. With different scanrates and beam currents, we get different domain widths and depths. The domain inversionmechanism was also discussed roughly..

in order to obtain the reference dynamic model for the adaptive control of thechaotic optical system, a suggestion of identifying the chaotic optical system with the BPfeed forward neural network supported by the BP algorithm is made in this peper. Thefeasibility of this suggestion was demonstrated with the ctrpputer simulation throughidentifying a Bragg acousto-optic bistable &. chaotic system with a very simple 1: 4: 1 BPNN. The result of the computer simulation shows that the three-layer BP foreward NN, if trained with the BP algorithm, is indeed a fine identifier. Thus it could be used to reconstruct the dynamics of the chaotic optical system efficiently with its output time series with a satisfactory precision..

The magneto-optical properties of a Al/BiGaDyIG double layer fine grain thinfilm crystalized with a rapid recurrent thermal annealing method has been investigated. Theeffective Faraday angle of the double layer film is over about 0. 25 degree than that of thecommon single layer film, and its Faraday angle inereases with the number of the rapidrecurrent annealing increased, which is due to the fineness of the grains and the interfaceinterference between the Al film and the garnet film. Meanwhile, the Al+3 ions diffuse into garnet film and substitute the Fe3+ ions in octahedral and tetrahedral sites, it results in a decrease of Curie temperature (140~161 ℃). These results are very promising for increasing the recording density and signal-noise-ratio..

Based on the chirp-encoding and high Pass filtering, the multitarget detectionusing a chirp-encoded joint transform correlator with high pass filtering is proposed. Thistechnique focuses the desired cross correlation terms between the reference image and thetarget images and the undesired terms, including D. C. term, self- correlation termsbetween the target images and various higher-order correlation terms, onto separated outputplanes. Thus it has higher accuracy of detection. Computer simulation results for the input gray-scale multitarget scenes are given..

The coupling of two nonequal-amplitude linear polarization solitons in lowellipticity birefringent optical fibers is analytically investigated. By analogy withparametrically excited solitary waves in a trough resonator, the mechanism of energytransform between coupled solitons in two channels is discussed in a dynamic POint of view. The first-switching distance L1 and the alternative period L2 are numerically determined andthe cause of L1>L2 is analyzed. According to the coupling behavior of solitons, an idea of all-optical soliton switching is proposed, which permits to fluctuation of the amplitudes and other parameters of the control and signal pulses in larger ranges..
