Chinese Optics Letters (COL) invites high-quality articles for the Special Issue on the 40th Anniversary of Institute of Modern Optics, Nankai University which is to be published in September, 2024.

The Institute of Modern Optics (IMO) in Nankai University was founded in 1984 by late Academician Guoguang Mu, the former President of Nankai University, Chairman of China Optical Society, and vice Chairman of International Optical Committee. Since then, IMO has the ambition to conduct top-level research and education in optics and photonics. IMO has been honored as the first-level national key discipline since 2002. In 2003, in order to broaden the scope of the academic curriculum and to provide a unique learning experience for undergraduate students, Department of Optoelectronic Technology and Science was established for joint education with Tianjin University in Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering. During the past 40 years, more than 1800 degrees have been awarded by IMO. Its alumni spread around the globe, and many of them have become internationally renowned scientists. To recognize its educational achievement, IMO has received SPIE Excellence in Education Award.

IMO will continue to carry forward the character of Nankai, develop its spirit, persist in giving top priority to cultivating the integrity of students, strengthen its quality, and develop towards the goal of building a world-leading institute.

This special issue seeks to highlight the most exciting research works on optics and photonics performed recently in IMO or by the alumni in the world widely. All manuscripts will be subject to the normal standards and peer-review processes of this journal. The topics of this special issue include, but are not limited to:

•Micro-nano optics
•Ultrafast laser optics
•THz photonics
•Fiber optics
•Intersection of AI and optics
