Abstract

An analytical model of intra-channel optical crosstalk in 2 × 2 fiber Bragg grating optical circulator-based Bidirectional Optical Cross Connect (BOXC) is presented. Both coherent and incoherent intra-channel crosstalk of our earlier proposed BOXC was analyzed and the impact of both kinds of crosstalk on the BER power penalty was examined. The Monte Carlo simulation was used to characterize the power probability distribution due to the crosstalk under various conditions. Simulation results show that the coherent crosstalk is higher than incoherent crosstalk, and the crosstalk increase in the number of the wavelength. The proposed BOXC is scalable to N × N ports owing to the cascade-ability of individual routing modules, which perform routing of specific wavelength channels. The power penalty can be decreased significantly in the proposed structure.
