A photon counting imaging system has extremely high sensitivity , high S/ N ratio and superior image quality.It has been proved to be very effective in detecting the ultra-weak light and applied to a variety of fields. The theory of a photon counting imaging system is introduced, and the technical requirements for its components and its applications are discussed.
