    Abstract

For the super second generation (Gen2+) and third generation (Gen3) IITs, the resolution was compared under different illumination, contrast targets and NVIS lighting compatibility. With basically the same performance, Gen3 IIT had better resolution under the same illumination, especially under illumination below 1✕10-3lx and contrast below 50%. Under NVIS lighting compatibility condition, the spectrum matching performance of Gen2+ IIT was lower, which furtherly increased the resolution gap with 1 group. In actual applications with moonless starlight, NVIS lighting compatibility and low contrast target conditions, Gen3 IIT with the same performance parameters was much better than Gen2+ IIT.
