    Abstract

    Owing to the some fuzzy features of digital image in nature, a fast maximum fuzzy correlation criterion thresholding method was proposed based on the analysis of limitation of conventional fuzzy entropy method. Firstly, the image was transformed into fuzzy domain by fuzzy member function. Then, the total amounts of fuzzy correlation provided by object and background distributions of image histogram was computed according to the definition of correlation, and the optimal threshold was determined by maximum fuzzy correlation criterion. In addition, in order to obtain optimal threshold quickly, the differential evolution algorithm was used to obtain the optimal parameters of fuzzy member function. Finally, the proposed method was tested on real images and compared with other several typical thresholding methods. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method obtains good performance, and satisfies the requirement of real-time.
