    Abstract

A phase-shifting joint transform correlator with synthetic discriminant function is obtained by use of the Gram-Schmidt expansion approach and iterative technique to recognize a class of objects.Compared with the SDF-based classical joint transform correlator, the phase-shifting joint transform correlator delivers a better capability to give localized equal correlation peak heights for the same class of objects. The performance merits based on light efficiency and signal-to-clutter ratio are evaluated.
