In the war field, the laser weapon has a higher request to laser protection with its constant development. A new kind of laser protection material the VO₂ thin films is introduced,which based on nonlinear optical phase transition principle. Because the phase transition temperature of VO₂ thin films is near to the room temperature and its optical and electrical properties are very good,VO₂ thin films have become the most hopeful laser protection materials for infrared detectors in phase transition materials.In this paper,optical and electrical properties of VO₂ thin films are introduced.Associated problems and developing trend of laser protection with VO₂ thin films are also described.
