    Abstract

After laser cladding, the microstructure and surface hardness of a YG8 pulse discharge coating for W 9Mo 3Cr 4V high speed steel were studied by means of XRD and TEM, etc. The results showed that the surface hardness of the coating could come up to HV 0.1 1600 ̄1800 after it was laser cladded. It is thought that formation of higher hard phases, such as W2C, and nanometer crystal microstructure is mainly responsible for so high coating hardness.
