On the morning of April 13, 2011, the preparatory meeting for the new publication was held at Dongshan Hotel in Suzhou, China

Oct 2012, Chinese Laser Press (CLP) and Cambridge University Press (CUP) signed contract to co-publish HPLSE as Gold Open Access at Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Lei Yang, General Manager of CLP signing the agreement with Simon Peter Ross, CUP deputy managing director for academic publishing as well as CUP global business development director.

The first editorial board was established with founding Co-Editors-in-Chief Prof Zunqi Lin and Colin Danson, Executive Editor-in-Chief Prof Jianqiang Zhu.

In February 2013, the first issue was published successfully.

In April 2014, the first International Symposium on High Power Laser Science and Engineering was held in Suzhou, China. This conference is biennial.

The first Editorial Board meeting was held during the conference HPLSE 2014 in Suzhou, China.

The article “Laser requirements for a laser fusion energy power plant” was awarded as the 2013 EIC Choice Award paper.

The article “Irradiation Uniformity at the Laser MegaJoule facility in the context of the shock ignition scheme” was awarded as the 2014 EIC Choice Award paper.

April 2016, the second International Symposium on High Power Laser Science and Engineering was held in Suzhou, China.

The article “Temperature dependence of parametric instabilities in the context of the shock-ignition approach to inertial confinement fusion” was awarded as the 2015 EIC Choice Award paper.

The second Editorial Board meeting was held during the conference HPLSE 2016 in Suzhou, China.

In April 2017, HPL was indexed in SCIE.

The article “Measuring vacuum polarization with high-power lasers” was awarded as the 2016 EIC Choice Award paper.

In April 2018, the third International Symposium on High Power Laser Science and Engineering was held in Suzhou, China.

The third Editorial Board meeting was held during the conference HPLSE 2018 in Suzhou, China.

The article “Targets for high repetition rate laser facilities: needs, challenges and perspectives” was awarded as the 2017 EIC Choice Award paper.

In the Scientific Background on the Nobel Prize in Physics 2018, one paper published in High Power Laser Science and Engineering which is titled “Petawatt class lasers worldwide” and authored by Colin Danson etc. was cited.

The article “EMP control and characterization on high-power laser systems” was awarded as the 2018 EIC Choice Award paper.

In October 2020, the Early Career Editorial Board (ECR) was established. ECR brings together a number of talented early career High Power Laser related physicists and engineers. The board advises on the future direction of the journal.

The article “Technology development for ultraintense all-OPCPA systems” was awarded as the 2019 EIC Choice Award paper.

On December 1^st, 2020, the first Early Career Editorial Board meeting was held online.

The article “Laser produced electromagnetic pulses: generation, detection and mitigation” was awarded as the 2020 EIC Choice Award paper.

In April 2021, the fourth International Symposium on High Power Laser Science and Engineering was held in Suzhou, China.

On May 18^th, 2021, the Editorial Board meeting was held online which had 29 attendees.

On September 7^th, 2021, the second Early Career Editorial Board meeting was held online.

From the year of 2022 on, High Power Laser Science and Engineering was published every two months.

On September 26^th, 2022, the third Early Career Editorial Board meeting was held online.

On November 30^th, 2022, the Editorial Board meeting was held online which had 23 attendees.

The article “Reflecting petawatt lasers off relativistic plasma mirrors: a realistic path to the Schwinger limit” was awarded as the 2021 EIC Choice Award paper.

High Power Laser Science and Engineering and Journal of Plasma Physics, jointly held a webinar on laser plasma interactions on April 22 in collaboration with the Chinese Laser Press, Cambridge University Press and Laboratory of Laser Plasma Physics, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, aiming to better promote the continuous progress and development of laser plasma research and related applications.
