Based on the measuring of thermal focal length and 1.06 μm fundamental property of Nd:GdVO4, the intracavity-frequency-doubling property of LD pumped Nd:GdVO4/KTP laser has been studied with a three-mirror folded cavity. When pumped by low power LD laser outputted from a single-fiber with the diameter of 200μm, the green laser has a threshold of 26 mW and an optical-to-optical efficiency of 17.3%. When pumped by high power LD laser outputted from a multi-fiber with the diameter of 1.55 mm, the green laser has a threshold of 200 mW and an optical-to-optical efficiency of 19.35%..

A fiber-optic sensor for monitoring of duodenogastric reflux is fabricated. The sensing system, based on the principle of double-beam compensation, includes two diodes for light sources, blue at 470 nm as signal light and yellow at the wavelength of 595 nm as reference one, and a Y model fiber optic bundle for transmitting light. The sensor performs on detection of spectrophotometric absorption of bilirubin always present in entero-gastric reflux at 470 nm and 595 nm. A general evaluation of the sensor about factors affecting its detection is discussed in detail: Wavelength choice, pH, scattering effect resulting from gastric precipitates and others. The sensor shows a good excellent performance with a dynamic linear range of up to 10 mg/dl. The in-vitro experiment shows it can be used in clinical analysis of DGR.

A novel two-dimensional (2-D) intensity modulated optical fiber reflective sensing probe is presented. Theoretically, the 2-D modulating function of the sensing probe is deduced. The theoretical characteristic curves are given. Experimentally, a five fiber optic sensing probe has been designed and demonstrated. The experimental results are obtained. It is good agreement with the theoretical prediction.

The physical and chemical characteristics changes of polymer under irradiation environment were analyzed. The radiation damage and recovery property for Polystyrene (PS) optical fiber, polycarbonate (PC) optical fiber, and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) optical fiber under γ-ray irradiation were researched experimentally. Under different irradiation dose, the light transmission rate reduced by different ratio, and the irradiation damage of fibers could recover by different extent after stopping irradiating, moreover, the recovery happened mainly during the shorter time after irradiation. Under low dose irradiation 102 Gy, the transmission rate reduced a little, and the irradiation damage can recover during a short time. When the irradiation dose reached 103 Gy, the recovery process need longer time. When the irradiation dose exceeded 5×103 Gy, the transmission rate reduced obviously, and the recovery process is slow and the irradiation damage can′t recover completely, that indicated fiber suffered lasting damage. By comparing experimental results of PS, PMMA, and PC opitcal fiber, It is discovered that the anti-irradiation performance of the PS optical fiber is better than that of both PMMA and PC optical fiber.

Promoting the Coupling Efficiency of Waves by a 2D Photonic Crystal

Numerical simulations adopting the multiple-scattering method and experimental measurements demonstrate that it is practical to promote the coupling efficiency with the help of a 2D photonic crystal. It is found that higher coupling efficiency of waves generally appears at the edge of the photonic bandgaps. And resonance coupling of waves with relatively high coupling efficiency is likely to occur for the optical lattice constant of the photonic crystals approaching to the wavelength of the waves transmitted. Besides, there also exist many other frequencies that high coupling efficiency may be obtained. The maximum coupling efficiency may be as high as 1.89 times of that without introducing the 2D photonic crystal. Such an effect is especially useful for wave-coupling in optical integrated devices.

Preparation of Entangled Squeezed Vacuum States via Atom-cavity-field Raman Interaction

A scheme for preparing bipartite and multipartite entangled squeezed vacuum states (SVSs) via the Raman interaction of an Λ-type three-level atom with squeezed vacuum states cavity fields is presented. In this scheme, an atom initially prepared in its ground state is in proper order injected into several cavities initially prepared each in the SVS with same interaction time. After the atom interacting with these cavities, the entanglement of atom-cavity-field is generated. Afterwards, by measuring the atom the cavity-field entangled SVSs are obtained. Also, the entanglement properties of bipartite entangled SVSs as well as multipartite entangled SVSs are discussed.
