We use an electrostatic model to study the average kinetic energy of ions ejected from the pure Coulomb explosions of methane clusters (CA4)n (light atom A=H and D). It is found that the ratio of the average kinetic energy of the ions to their initial average electrostatic potential energy is irrelevant to the cluster size. This finding implies that as long as the ratio is given, the average kinetic energies of the ions can be simply estimated from their initial average electrostatic potential energies, rather than from the time-consuming simulations. The ratios for the different charge states of carbon ions are presented..

A dissolved oxygen (DO) sensor based on U-shape plastic optical fiber (POF) and dichlorotris (1, 10-phenanthroline) ruthenium ([Ru(dpp)+]2+) as an oxygen indicator was described. Fluorescence intensity and lifetime were measured when the sensor was soaked into a water bath blasted with air with varied O2/N2 ratios. The influence of Ru concentration, annealing time and U-shaped POF curve radius on the system sensitivity was also studied. A two-layer model was proposed to analyze the deviation from linear relation described by Stern-Volmer equation, and to explain the deviation and the dependence of the fluorescence on curvature of U-shape POF. By fitting the experimentally measured sub-linear relation of \tau0/\tau ratio versus oxygen concentration, the proportion of effectively sensitive layer and the Stern-Volmer coefficient can be evaluated to be f=0.59 and KSV=0.61 typically..

Semi-blind image restoration based on Chan-Vese denoising model

A semi-blind image restoration algorithm is proposed based on reduced non-convex approximation of Luminita Vese and Tony Chan's (C-V) denoising model. Compared with C-V denoising model, we modify the fidelity term and add a term on point spread function (PSF). The function depends on two variables: the image function to be restored u and the standard deviation of Gaussian kernel to be estimated \sigma. Then the problems consist in solving a system with two coupled equations. Compared with the Leah Bar's semi-blind image restoration model which must solve three coupled equations, our method only needs to solve two equations. Furthermore, the estimation of f by our algorithm is superior to Leah Bar's algorithm. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method is effective..

The microcavity and the influence of nonradiative recombination can control spontaneous emission. An analytic resolution of rate equation is studied for microcavity lasers. The relationship between output properties and structural parameters of multi-quantum wells (MQWs) is obtained. One of the most important consequences of the increased spontaneous emission factor is the reduction of laser threshold. It is found that the characteristic curve of a “thresholdless" laser is strongly nonradiative depopulation-dependent. The light output is increased by the enhanced well number and the reduced width. In particular, there is an optimal well number corresponding to the lowest threshold current density for MQW structure in the microcavity lasers..

The excitation wavelength was 514.5 nm and the Raman spectra in the region of 500-1800 cm-1 were recorded. For the gastric cancer cells, as the concentration of 5-Fu increases, the band at 1094 cm-1 attributed to the symmetric stretching vibration mode of PO^(2)_(-) in the DNA backbone gradually decreases, and the intensity ratio of the band at 1315 cm-1 to that at 1340 cm-1 (I1315/I1340) shows the ascending trend, and the ratio of the band area at 1655 cm-1 to that at 1450 cm-1 (A1655/A1450) shows the slight ascending trend. For the normal gastric cells, these peaks also appear changes, however, the changes are weaker than those for the cancer cells. In SGC-7901 cells, 5-Fu can interfere with the DNA synthesis and result in the reduction of the DNA content. Besides, it can affect the unsaturation degree of the hydrocarbon chains and alter the external environment of guanine and adenine residues in cancer cells. The changes of Raman spectra for normal gastric cells reveal the side effect of 5-Fu..

This paper designs an optical system and some lenses for the BD OPU, including collimator lens, beam shaping lens for laser beam shaping, and cylinder lens for signal detecting. In this OPU, we use a triplet lens to collimate the laser beam. At the same time, we build a series of assembly jigs to make sure that each lens can be put into the OPU basement properly. At last, we get the reading spot image and S-curve photo of OPU, which can be used to read Blu-ray disc (BD)..

Transmission spectra of coupled cavity structures (CCSs) in two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystals (PCs) are investigated using a coupled mode theory, and an optical filter based on CCS is proposed. The performance of the filter is investigated using finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method, and the results show that within a very short coupling distance of about 3\lambda, where \lambda is the wavelength of signal in vacuum, the incident signals with different frequencies are separated into different channels with a contrast ratio of 20 dB. The advantages of this kind of filter are small size and easily tunable operation frequencies..

Propagation characteristics of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) in the lamellar heterostructure, which is actually a SPP waveguide array, constructed by two kinds of single negative (SNG) material layers stacked alternatively are investigated. Based on the finite element method (FEM), the negative-refraction (NR) property is demonstrated when the electromagnetic wave penetrates through free space into such SNG lamellar structure. A clear view of the underlying physics of NR is presented qualitatively that is mainly related to the coupled SPPs. The strong coupling effect leads to the novel SPP dispersion curves and then the anomalous propagation characteristics..

Tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS) is a new method to detect trace-gas qualitatively or quantificationally based on the scan characteristic of the diode laser to obtain the absorption spectroscopy in the characteristic absorption region. A time-sharing scanning open-path TDLAS system using two near infrared distributed feedback (DFB) tunable diode lasers is designed to detect CH4 and H2S in leakage of natural gas. A low-cost Fresnel lens is used in this system as receiving optics which receives the laser beam reflected by a solid corner cube reflector with a distance of up to about 60 m. High sensitivity is achieved by means of wavelength-modulation spectroscopy with second-harmonic detection. The minimum detection limits of 1.1 ppm.m for CH4 and 15 ppm.m for H2S are demonstrated with a total optical path of 120 m. The simulation monitoring experiment of nature gas leakage was carried out with this system. According to the receiving light efficiency of optical system and detectable minimum light intensity of detection, the detectable optical path of the system can achieve 1-2 km. The sensor is suitable for natural gas leakage monitoring application..

The regions of interest are those with Asia monsoon influence, the Tianshan and Qilian Mountains, and the Taklimakan Desert. The results show that the instantaneous measurements presented here are much higher than the previous results derived from International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project (ISCCP) D2 monthly mean data. Generally the measurements of cloud optical depth are the highest in summer and the lowest in winter, however, Taklimakan Desert has the lowest measurements in autumn. The regional variation is quite significant over northwestern China..

The time-of-flight mass spectrum (TOFMS) relative to the resonant two-photon ionization of gas phase p-dichlorobenzene was obtained in the wavelength range of 240-250 nm by a home-made system. A special design was made to reduce the effect of memory on the inner wall of the sample inlet system suitable for the investigation of semi-volatile organic compound. In this wavelength range, p-dichlorobenzene molecules firstly absorbed one photon to be excited from the ground state 1Ag(S0) to the first excited state 1B2u(s1), then absorbed another photon to be ionized. The relationship between the signal intensity of p-dichlorobenzene molecular ion C6H^(35)_(4)Cl^(+)_(2) at 248-nm wavelength and the laser power was given. The 1.52 power index of C6H^(35)_(4)Cl^(+)_(2) was a typical identification of the 3/2 power law. The relationship between the ion signal intensity of C6H^(35)_(4)Cl^(+)_(2) and the sample concentration was close to a linear one in the ppm(V/V) range, which led to a detection limit of 125 ppb(V/V) for p-dichlorobenzene..

Gray cross correlation matching technique is adopted to extract candidate matches with gray cross correlation coefficients less than some certain range of maximal correlation coefficient called multi-peak candidate matches. Multi-peak candidates are extracted corresponding to three closest feature points at first. The corresponding multi-peak candidate matches are used to construct the model polygon. Correspondence is determined based on the local geometric relations between the three feature points and the multi-peak candidates. The disparity test and the global consistency checkout are applied to eliminate the remaining ambiguous matches that are not removed by the local geometric relational test. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is feasible and accurate..

The description of a plane wave diffracted by a circular aperture is directly started from the Maxwell's equations. Based on the vector angular spectrum representation of Maxwell's equations, the diffracted plane wave is decomposed into the TE and TM terms. The analytical TE and TM terms in the far field are presented by stationary phase. As the TE and TM terms are orthogonal to each other in the far field, their sum constitutes the so-called Airy disc pattern. Therefore, this research reveals the composition of Airy disc, which is beneficial to deepen and enhance the recognition of the classical diffraction problem..
