Abstract
We are very pleased to introduce the inaugural issue of Photonics Research, a publishing collaboration between The Optical Society (OSA) and Chinese Laser Press (CLP), serving as a new international platform for researchers to share advances in optics and photonics. We are very pleased to introduce the inaugural issue of Photonics Research, a publishing collaboration between The Optical Society (OSA) and Chinese Laser Press (CLP), serving as a new international platform for researchers to share advances in optics and photonics.
In the past 50 years, the concept of light’s duality helped the invention and development of modern optoelectronic devices, such as lasers and rare-earth-doped fiber amplifiers, which formed the backbone of a photonics revolution that fuels our ever-expanding boundaries in photonics research. Photonics Research recognizes that light has both particle and wave behaviors and covers research and development in photonics over the electromagnetic spectrum from ultraviolet, visible to the near-, mid-, and far-infrared. The scope of Photonics Research will span from fundamental properties of light and its interactions with matter; to the latest developments in optoelectronic devices; and to the emerging physics and applications involving quantum information, nanophotonics, and ultrafast phenomena, to name just a few.
A “duet” management team is another characteristic of the Photonics Research journal. As international collaboration in research gets deeper, OSA and CLP are teaming up to help their optical communities gain global exposure for their innovative research through a high-quality international journal. Photonics Research is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal aiming at rapid publishing of theoretical and applied research developments in optics and photonics. Photonics Research is freely and widely available to all readers via OSA’s Optics InfoBase, featuring an enhanced HTML format with article usage metrics, and CLP’s Opticsjournal.net platform.

We are honored to have assembled a distinguished international group of leaders in photonics to serve on the journal’s founding editorial board. We are personally excited to have been selected to lead this new journal and to ensure that it serves the needs of authors and readers in the greater optics and photonics community.
We would also like to point out that the peer-review system, and thus the quality of the journal, is our top priority. For every manuscript submitted to Photonics Research, at least two reviews are needed. We wish to thank those of you who have already supported the journal by reviewing papers in the inaugural issue. Your support as reviewers is always welcomed and greatly appreciated.
We appreciate the support authors have already demonstrated by contributing to the first issues of the journal. From time to time, Photonics Research will publish special issues in emerging and rapidly developing research areas. Your thoughts and proposals in this regard are also solicited.
Looking forward, it is our earnest hope that Photonics Research will become your number one choice for rapid, peer-reviewed publication of your highest-quality research in photonics.
